DESCRIPTION
The United States of America, many times referred to as the “US”, the “USA”,” The United States”, or just the one word “America”; consists of 50 states. Many people confuse the United States of having 52 states because certain lists include District of Columbia (DC) and Puerto Rico, which would make the correct name of the list The United States and other jurisdictions.” The total population of the US is a little over 300 million people, making it the 3rd largest in population, and the U.S. happens to also be the 3rd largest in land area. Located in the northern hemisphere in North America, 48 of the 50 United States are situated between the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Canada, and Mexico. The other states are Alaska, located in the northwest of the continent with Canada to its East and Russia to its west; and Hawaii, which is an archipelago on the Mid-Pacific. The United States was responsible for producing 23% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2008, at 14.3 trillion. The currency used as money is the US Dollar. The most notable geographical attributes of this great country are the Rocky Mountains, Appalachian Mountains, Mississippi River, Grand Canyon, and Great lakes in Michigan. A few of the most popular cities in America most traveled are New York City (NYC), Las Vegas, New Orleans, Miami Beach, Denver, and Los Angeles. The most spoken language in the U.S. is Spanish. The US has the largest stock exchange in the world by dollar volume, which is the New York Stock Exchange.
