DESCRIPTION

Central America is comprised of 7 small tropical countries, and connects North America and South America to each other. Spanish is the language most frequently spoken throughout Central America and this as well as the culture leads many to believe that Central America is actually part of South America, even though it is not. The seven countries of Central America all have a significant amount of their borders on either the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic Ocean and include: Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Some of the largest cities throughout Central America are: Leon, Panama City, Salvador, San Jose, San Miguel, Tegucigalpa, Guatemala City, Santa Ana, and San Pedro Sula. In 2007, this tropical isthmus of southern North America reported around 40 million people as residents. Costa Rica’s beaches rank among the best in the world and are very popular not just for their beauty, but for their great surf as well. Antigua, Guatemala, is known to be a back-packers favorite, and the most well preserved colonial city in the Spanish Americas. If you like to scuba dive, Utila, a Bay Island in Honduras, is known to be the cheapest scuba dive destination in the world.
