Belgium is home of the biggest street festival in all of Europe, Gentse Feesten. Gentse Feesten is held in the historical center Ghent each year from July 14-23rd. It’s a huge, 10-day long street festival, which entails all types of music, theater, parties, and so much more. Don’t fret if you can’t make it during those 10 days because there are great things year round in Belgium, making almost any time a good time to visit Belgium. Carnival De Binche is a 3-day long festival in February when the town of Binche is transported back to the 16th century for one of the most fantastic festivals of the year. Dour Festival is the European Alternative Music event, which takes place from July 12th-15th. Belgium is home of some of the best chocolate in all of the world thanks to it’s superior refinement process. In addition to the chocolate, Belgium is home of arguably the richest beer culture on the planet. Popular cities in Belgium include Antwerp- the largest city, Liege, Bruges, Dinant, Ghent, Leuven, Mechelen, Ypres, and Brussels- Belgium’s capital. The population recorded as of July 2006 was just over 10 million people. Located on the North Sea Coast of Western Europe, Belgium’s temperatures are mild in the winter and cool, rainy, humid, and cloudy during the summer. Belgium uses the Euro as it’s monetary unit for money. Belgium has three official languages: Dutch, French and German; but English is spoken almost everywhere, especially by the younger people. Belgium borders France, Luxembourg, Germany, and the Netherlands.
