Iceland, a large mountainous island North of Europe in the North Atlantic Ocean is on the fault between Europe and North America. Glaciers cover Eleven percent of Iceland. The largest city in Iceland, Reykjavik, is also the northernmost capital in the world. The currency in Iceland is the Icelandic Krona (ISK). The population in Iceland as of April 2007 was just over 309,000. Major cities in Iceland are: Vestmannaeyjar, Stykkisholmur, Skagafjordordur, Akureyri, and Hafnarfjorour. Unfortunately, most visitors don’t stray far from Reykjavik; however, some of the most beautiful sights of Iceland are spread out amongst the rest of this beautiful country. Some of the many great things to do while visiting Iceland, include going on glacier jeep rides, and the amazing adventure tours on Vatnajokull, which is the biggest glacier in Europe. Iceland is a gorgeous place if you enjoy unique and desolate landscapes with lave fields, lava tubes, plains of fractured rock, ice, fire, and steam. Europe’s largest waterfall is Dettifoss, which is also in Iceland.
