DESCRIPTION

Lithuania is located in central-eastern Europe. It has a Baltic Sea coastline in the west and surrounded by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east, Poland to the southwest and Russia to the west. The three largest cities in Lithuania are Klaipeda, Kaunas and Vilnius, which is the capital. The climate in Lithuania is between maritime and continental, wet moderate winters and summers. As of recently Vilnius has become a shopper’s paradise, as Acropolis, which is a chain of shopping centers has expanded throughout, many of which have ice skating rinks, bowling lanes and a cinema. The official language is Lithuanian, while the older generations typically also speak Russian and the younger generations also speak English. The typical entrée in a Lithuanian restaurant includes meat, potato, vegetables and sometimes a curd sauce. Basic, yet yummy. Although Lithuania is a small country, it is home to quite a few local beers, such as Svyturys, Kalnapilis, Utenos, Horn and Gubernija. There are even kiosks which house more than 50 different brands of beer to quench the thirst of the many beer drinkers in Lithuania. Lithuania is also home to several cheap but high quality vodka. Some of the best educational systems in the world, with two of the most notable schools being the University of Vilnius and Kaunas University of Technology.
