DESCRIPTION

Malta is a small island country in the Mediterranean Sea, south of the island of Sicily, Italy. Malta is one of three islands that make up an archipelago: the other two being Gozo and Comino. The most popular cities in Malta are Marsaxlokk, Marsakala, Conttonera, Rabat, Sliema, San Giljan, Bugibba, and Valletta. The total population as of July 2006 of these islands was only 400,000. Malta has beautiful sandy beaches, two of the most popular ones are the Golden Bay and Mellieha. In Malta, the summers are almost always dry and hot and the winters can be wet, cool and windy. The official languages are Maltese and English, but Italian is widely spoken as well. The official currency used as money as of January 2008 is the Euro. Malta’s food is known to be great, with influences from Italy, Northern Africa, and Britain. The national drink in Malta is Kinnie, which is a fizzy drink made from bitter oranges and slightly similar to a martini. The local beer is called Cisk. The most popular area for nightlife is just west of St. Julian’s, in Paceville. People travel from all over the country to party here. Young Maltese Women even as young as high school age, are known to be taking part in the festivities.
