DESCRIPTION
Ah Verona, fair Verona, Italy. It was the hometown of Shakespeare’s tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. It’s now a place where tourists fall in love – with the city itself. If tourist traps are your thing, you can visit Juliet’s house, just off the Piazza delle Erbe, and have your photo taken on the balcony – though the balcony post-dates the story and it’s not documented that Shakespeare even visited the city. For some actual history, the Piazza delle Erbe features a popular open-air market, built on the site of a Roman forum. Another popular attraction is the Arena di Verona, a 2000-year-old Roman amphitheater that is still in use for opera performances. There are several bridges that arch over the Adige River here, which are also Roman structures.
