DESCRIPTION
Denmark’s capital of Copenhagen is located in the far eastern part of the country, so the second-largest city of Århus, on the western edge, has earned the distinction of being the “Capital of the West.” The most popular destination to visit in Århus is the Old Town. It’s a misnomer, as it’s not a town, but a collection of historic Denmark houses brought together in one spot to create an open-air museum, and each house represents a different period in Denmark’s past. If you want to stretch really deep into the past, visit the Moesgaard Museum’s famous “bog man,” a 2000-year-old Iron Age body, which is remarkably well-preserved. Photo hounds will want to be sure to visit the Marselisborg Castle in the Marselisborg Forest, and maybe you’ll catch a glimpse of the Danish Queen on one of her trips here. September is a festive time to visit Århus, as this is when it hosts its Festival Week.
