DESCRIPTION

Montenegro’s capital city of Podgorica is a newbie on the tourist map. Plagued by bombing during World War II and Yugoslavia’s civil war, the city has had to pull itself from the rubble. Since so much of Podgorica was destroyed, it rebuilt itself into a modern city. While often just a city-stop for tourists on their way to the Adriatic Sea resorts the mountains, there are a variety of attractions to occupy your time. There are a few old buildings that survived the city’s troubles, including an 18th century clock tower, St. George’s Church, and the mosques in the city’s old town. A few examples of Roman bridges still remain over the Morača River, but the newest, the Millennium Bridge is the most well-known.
