DESCRIPTION
Alaska is one of the 50 US states though
it’s separated from the contiguous United States by Canada. It is
located in the far north west of North America and has a coastline on
the Arctic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea, which stands
between the state and nearby Russia. Alaska is best known for its vast
areas of wilderness with spectacular scenic beauty, one of the reasons
why this state has the nickname of The Last Frontier. Considering this
is the largest state in the USA, Alaska has one of the lowest populations
at around 690,000 people. Travelers come here to enjoy the great
outdoors in national parks such as Denali National Park, home to the
tallest mountain in the USA, Mount McKinley, while Glacier Bay National
Park is best known as a destination for its glaciers. Anchorage is the
largest city and has an important port and scenic mountain backdrop.
Then there’s the capital city, Juneau, which is located in an area
that can’t be reached by road so travelers have to catch a flight
from Anchorage! As Alaska is so large the climate varies from end to
end. In general the state is cool, ranging from an Arctic climate to
an oceanic climate.
