DESCRIPTION
Situated in the American Heartland
in the Midwest region of the United States is the state of Iowa. Ranked
26th in terms of its land size, the state has only the 30th
highest population at a little more than 3 million. Although best known
for its agriculture and food production, the state does have a variety
of interesting tourist attractions. Des Moines is the cosmopolitan capital
of Iowa, and also the largest city in the state. It’s said to have
one of the most beautiful State Capitol Buildings in the country and
the free tours attract many travelers. Terrace Hill is also popular.
This home to the State Governor also offers tours, as does the historic
Salisbury House. Des Moines has many modern attractions too though.
One of the most visited destinations in Iowa is the Amana Villages.
This National Historic Site is popular for its craft shops and restaurants,
and shows how life was from the 1850’s until the 1930’s for the
German Pietists who lived here. Iowa has a humid continental climate
but its location means it’s often hit by tornadoes in the spring and
summer months. Summers are hot and humid, while winters can be harsh.
