DESCRIPTION
In north eastern USA is the state of
Maine, situated in the region called New England. The state borders
with New Hampshire and the neighboring country of Canada, as well as
having an extensive coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. This location makes
Maine the furthest easterly state in the USA. The state is ranked 39th
for land area and 40th for population as around 1.3 million
people call this home. Maine is best known by travelers for
its New England characteristics – the Fall Colors on the trees, scenic
coastal destinations, attractive towns and cities and lobster! Augusta
is the capital city where the main tourist attraction is Old Fort Western,
a fort built way back in 1754. The largest city is Portland where popular
attractions include the Old Port and Portland Head Light and Museum.
The only national park in New England is situated here – Acadia National
Park offers travelers those typical scenic coastlines and plenty of
wildlife including black bears, bobcats, moose and beavers. Maine is
a popular location for visiting during fall/autumn when travelers come
to see the Fall Colors. During the summer the state is warm and humid,
though during the winter it can be quite cold and snowy here.
