DESCRIPTION
North Carolina is a state in the south east of the United States and is situated on the Atlantic Seaboard. South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia share borders with the state which is the 28th largest in the country. There’s a high population density here because the state is home to nearly 9.5 million people, and the official language is English. North Carolina offers travelers a variety of attractions, ranging from scenic mountains to scenic coastlines and vibrant cities. The state capital is Raleigh, named after Englishman Sir Walter Raleigh and tourists can enjoy the State Capitol Building and numerous museums and parks in and around the city. The largest city in the state is Charlotte, where tourists will again find museums and many of the state’s sports teams such as NFL’s Carolina Panthers. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an area of great scenic beauty where hiking is especially popular, plus the Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the state’s most visited destinations. On the coast, areas like Crystal Coast feature beaches, National Forests and National Seashores. The mainly subtropical climate of North Carolina means tourists will find hot and humid summers, with mild to cold winters depending on elevation.
