The 33rd largest state in the USA is Pennsylvania. Located in the north east, in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the state borders with Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and New York, and has a 51 mile (82km) coast on Lake Erie. This is the 6th most populated state in the US with around 12.5 million residents. Travelers will find several of the United States’ largest cities in Pennsylvania – Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, both of which have many tourist attractions. Philadelphia has one of the largest art collections in the world at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, plus a statue of Rocky outside! The Independence National Historic Park is one of the state’s most visited destinations as this features the Liberty Bell and Constitution Hall. The much smaller capital city is Harrisburg, with its large Beaux-Arts State Capitol Building and attractive streets. Also popular with tourists is Gettysburg where the famous Civil War battle took place in 1863. Travelers who enjoy scenic destinations will like the Poconos Mountains and the 121 State Parks situated around the state. With its location near the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Erie, and range of elevations, the climate in Pennsylvania is quite varied. Tourists should expect warm summers and cool winters.
