DESCRIPTION

Situated in the Deep South region of the United States is the state of South Carolina. This is the 40th state in terms of land area, and 24th in terms of population, with around 4.5 million people living here. Bordered by just two states, North Carolina and Georgia, there is also an extensive Atlantic Ocean coastline for travelers to enjoy. South Carolina is most visited for its history and its beaches. Although its cities were involved in the Civil War several of them were taken without a fight, meaning that many of the historic and attractive architecture from that period still stands. Charleston is a very popular destination for its history and many streets are lined with impressive old southern styled mansions. The capital and largest city is Columbia. Tourist attractions here include the State House, the State Museum and Columbia Museum of Art. Nearby the city is the state’s only National Park, Congaree, with its attractive hardwood forests, plus hiking, camping and canoeing. On the coast, Myrtle Beach is the most visited destination; known for its wide and relaxing beaches, golfing, nightlife, restaurants and more. With its southern location, South Carolina has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild to cool winters.
