DESCRIPTION

Situated in the American Midwest is
the state of South Dakota. This is the 17th largest state
in the USA but has only the 46th highest population, giving
the state a low population density and sparsely populated areas. Neighbored
by the states of North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wyoming and
Montana, the state contains one of the USA’s most famous mountains,
Mount Rushmore.
Most travelers come to South Dakota
to see Mount Rushmore. This is actually the most visited attraction
in the state and features the huge carvings of four American presidents:
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham
Lincoln. The surrounding Black Hills are very scenic, and a popular
destination too, as is nearby Badlands National Park, and the Minuteman
Missile National Historic Site: a remnant from the Cold War. The state’s
second National Park is Wind Cave which features scenic caves that are
the fourth longest in the world. Pierre is the state capital and the
second smallest state capital in the country, while Sioux Falls is the
largest city with the popular and scenic Falls Park. South Dakota’s
central location gives the state a continental climate with four marked
seasons. Summers are hot and winters are cold.
