Located in Central America, Guatemala shares borders with Mexico, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, as well as the Pacific coastline to the southwest and a small piece of Caribbean coastline to the East. The capital and largest city of Guatemala is Guatemala City. La Antigua is the Colonial Spanish capital of Central America, a World Heritage site, and the most popular city in Guatemala. Other popular cities in Guatemala are: Quetzaltenango, Sayaxche, Panajachel, and Puerto San Jose. The rainy season takes place from mid May through mid October in Guatemala, and goes through mid November in the north. March and April are very hot and the sun is strong, so be sure to use plenty of sunscreen. The most elaborate ceremonies of the year are in Antigua, throughout the week, leading up to Easter. The currency used in Guatemala is the Quetzai, which is named after the national bird. U.S. dollars are also widely accepted. The most popular beer in Guatemala is a light pilsner style beer called Gallo.
