Located in Central America, Costa Rica borders Nicaragua, Panama and is one of the few countries that have coastlines of both the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. There are many popular cities in Costa Rica such as: Jaco, Puerto Limon, Tamarindo, Liberia and San Jose, which is the country’s capital. The population as of July 2006 was just over 4 million. Spanish is the universal language and although popular tourist destinations typically have English-speaking residents, it is much easier to get around, if you know even a little bit of Spanish. Costa Rica is most known for its wonderful surfing, great fishing, beautiful mountain biking routes, horseback riding, and one of the lushest tropical golfing environments in the world. The local currency is Colones named after Columbus. The coffee is amazing and definitely worth taking home. The two most popular beers in Costa Rica are Pilsen and Imperial. More tourists than any other Latin American country visit Costa Rica with over 1.9 million travelers annually. Costa Rica has absolutely gorgeous weather and great waves making it a terrific destination for any surfing trip.
