DESCRIPTION

The Republic of Bolivia is
a landlocked country located in South America. Bolivia, named after
Simon Bolivar, has borders with Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile and
Peru.  The administrative capital city is La Paz, with Sucre being
the constitutional capital city. The official language is Spanish and
the currency is the little-known Boliviano. Bolivia’s population is
estimated at just less than 10 million.
Bolivia has an enormous diversity
of ecological zones, from The Andes in the west to large sections of
Amazonian rainforests in the eastern lowlands. The world’s largest
salt flat is also located here, in the southwest corner. This diversity
gives a wide climatic profile from polar conditions in the Andes to
a tropical climate in the lowlands. The country is tremendously rich
in natural resources but has no access to the Pacific Ocean in the west
and can only access the Atlantic Ocean via the Paraguay River. Agriculture
accounts for approximately 15% of Bolivia’s GDP with soybeans being
the major cash crop. The most visited tourist attraction outside of
the La Paz must be Lake Titicaca which is the World’s highest commercially
navigable lake. This popular tourist destination is 370m deep and is
the largest lake in South America.
