DESCRIPTION

Situated in the Middle East is Jordan, a country rich in history and archaeology. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Israel and Syria have borders with this country, which is the 112th largest in the world. The population is about 6.2 million people and the official language is Arabic. Tourists should bring the Jordanian dinar for currency. Jordan is best known for its spectacular archaeological sites, especially the ancient city of Petra. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was once the capital of the Nebataean kingdom. The most visited attraction is the famous Treasury building which is carved out of the cliff-face. Another popular destination is the ancient city of Jaresh which features extensive Roman ruins. In the capital and largest city, Amman, travelers can learn more about the country’s past in the National Archaeological Museum and visit Roman structures right in the city. The Dead Sea area of the country is also a popular location as tourists can visit here for a more relaxing beach holiday. Swimming in the very salty sea water at the lowest point on earth is a popular attraction! Jordan is situated in the Northern Hemisphere and has hot and dry summers.
