DESCRIPTION
Oman is an Arab country situated at
the south eastern end of the Arabian Peninsula, in south west Asia.
Its neighbors are Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, plus
coastlines on the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. This is the 70th
largest country in the world and has a population of around 2.6 million
people. The official language is Arabic and the currency is the Rial. This is a popular emerging tourist
destination that is most visited for its beaches, history and cities,
giving travelers a good variety of attractions to enjoy. The capital
and largest city is Muscat, where popular attractions include the traditional
Arabian Souq (market). There’s a lot of history in Oman, and tourists
will find a number of forts around the country. Muscat has Al Jalali
Fort and Al Mirani Fort, built in 1580. Further attractions in the capital
include the world’s third largest mosque, and the Royal Palace. Beaches
are abound, and even Muscat has many good ones for relaxing or enjoying
watersports. Travelers may also like to watch some of the nation’s
sports which include bull butting and camel racing! Oman’s location
gives long hot summers from May to October, and little rain.
