DESCRIPTION
When General Sherman burned Atlanta at the end of the Civil War, he never imagined that the city would become a phoenix from the flames. Georgia’s capital came back to becoming a bustling metropolitan city, though it still remembers its southern roots. Civil War enthusiasts can still find battlefields and museums to visit, while those in search of Scarlett O’Hara-like southern charm will find the city’s antebellum architecture a treat. The city was the location of the 1996 Olympics, but it was the bombing in Centennial Olympic Park that is most remembered. Today the park is a serene place to sit and watch the world go by. Atlanta’s aquarium is possibly one of the best in the U.S., and the zoo is pretty good, too. If you’d like a little corporate sponsorship to go with your tourist destination, you won’t mind a visit to the theme-attraction-slash-museum of World of Coke.
