DESCRIPTION

Skiers who want Olympic-quality Alpine skiing combined with quaint French atmosphere would do well to visit Chamonix, France. It’s located at the base of Europe’s highest peak of Mont Blanc, it hosted the winter Olympic sports in 1924, and continues to host tourists who want to ski over 70 runs. The longest and most famous run is the Vallée Blanche, stretching over 12 miles. For those that don’t ski, there are glaciers to climb and ice caves to explore. While Chamonix is mostly a winter destination, the mountains can entertain summer visitors as well with activities like hiking and hang gliding. Winter visitors will find that Chamonix is more than just a ski resort; it’s a town with nice restaurants and a decent après ski culture.
