DESCRIPTION
Black Forest tourists would do well to base themselves out of the charming city of Freiburg, Germany. It’s location on the edge of the Black Forest makes it a good starting point, and its own attractions make it a good place to spend a day or so exploring. The Minster Cathedral is Freiburg’s landmark destination, and the gargoyles that look out into the forest give the building a sense of whimsy. Munsterplatz is the main square where you’ll find the cathedral, but also local vendors bustling in the daily market (every day but Sunday.) For a good view, climb up the Schlossberg Lookout Tower. For a bit of cultural insight, visit during the Carnival (January-February) to celebrate with the locals. Don’t be scared by their wooden masks, however, that they don during the processions.
