DESCRIPTION
Pilgrims make the trek to Lourdes, France to view the site where the Virgin Mary appeared in visions to a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous in 1948. Even tourists who are not part of the religious faithful can appreciate the Basilica of the Rosary that was built on the site. One of the biggest attractions for the area are the waters in the grotto that are said to have healing properties to those who drink or touch them. There is a daily procession to the waters that makes for quite a show. The Pyrenees Mountains are nearby, which makes Lourdes a nice stop on your way to the outdoor world that awaits there.
