DESCRIPTION

If you’re looking for a true Tuscan town, pay a visit to Siena, Italy. The town missed the development boom of its neighbors, so it retains its medieval atmosphere. The streets can be puzzling, but getting lost may be half the fun. There are things to see at every corner, such as archways or plazas. The main attraction is the landmark tower of Torre del Mangia, where you can get some nice city views if you can tackle the 300 or so steps to the top. The duomo, or dome, is also dominant in the skyline, located in the Piazza del Campo, or the old square. The square hosts the Campo of Siena horse race twice a year, in July and August, where the town’s districts compete against each other in this age-old contest.
