Montenegro shares its borders with Croatia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea. The Republic of Montenegro is a country in the Balkans. In 2007, tourism in Montenegro reached an all time peak level and has since caused a considerable amount of construction to start. Montenegro is grouped into 3 main regions: The Coastal region-, which is the most popular tourist destination because of the 72 km of beaches, the old towns and luxury hotels; The Central Region-, which is in the Zeta River Valley and The Northern Region-, which has some of the most gorgeous nature in all of Montenegro, with high mountains, clean rivers and great ski resorts in the winter. A few of the most popular cities in Montenegro are Bar-, which is a major port of Montenegro, Budva-, the most popular resort with beautiful beaches and fun nightlife, Petrovac-, a smaller resort, typically better for families, Tivat-, the county’s second airport, and Podgorica-, which is the capital city and is located in the Central Region. Other popular destinations are what some say is the most beautiful bay in all of Europe, Boka Kotorska, the deepest canyon in Europe, Tara Canyon and Skadar Lake, which is the largest lake on the Balkans. The climate varies quite a bit in Montenegro: in the lower areas it’s known to be of Mediterranean climate, and in the mountainous regions-, it’s known to rain a lot, northern area of the mountains-, it tends to snow a bunch in the winter. The national language in Montenegro is Serbo-Croatian and Russian is spoken more and more. English is not spoken by many residents. Montenegrin vineyards are known to produce top end wines and are best known for the premium whites: Krstac, Cabernet, and Chardonnay’s. For the beer drinkers, the most common beverage is certainly the Niksicko beer and is praised among virtually all beer lovers.
