Austria and Switzerland are the winter sports capital of Europe, but it’s very popular for summer tourists who enjoy historic cities and villages. These great cities make for a terrific hike while one can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Alps. Almost every village in Austria has it’s own choir or brass band, with Salzburg and Vienna offering world-renowned Operas, Classical, and Jazz concerts. Vienna is the capital of Austria. Other cities frequently traveled are Klagenfurt, Linz, Innsbruck, Graz, and Salzburg. The population in Austria, recorded as of July 2007 was over 8.2 million residents. A few of the most popular activities for tourists visiting Austria are hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and biking. Although Austria is a mountainous country, cycling routes are mostly alongside rivers and are typically flat or mildly downhill. Located in the Central part of Europe, Austria borders Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, and Italy. In Austria, like most of the European countries, the monetary exchange unit used as money is the Euro. German is spoken by 99% of the residents, but most residents are taught English in school and most English-speaking tourists get by just fine.
