DESCRIPTION

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, and inherited his love for the sea and exploration from this major port town. His birthplace is one of the attractions in the city’s main square of Piazza de Ferrari. While you’re there, make sure to see the Palace of the Doges, the ruling class in Venice. The Old Town in Genoa is one of the biggest – and nicest – in Europe, and consists of lots of streets and alleyways that take you through smaller piazzas, restaurants, churches and Italian shops. The Via Garibaldi is one of the most famous of these streets, where you’ll see how the most rich and famous Italian families in history lived the good life – their palaces are now museums. Another destination to visit is the city’s aquarium – also Europe’s biggest.
