DESCRIPTION

Fifteen miles north of the Venezuelan coast, one will find the beautiful Caribbean island filled with white sandy beaches known as Aruba. The Southwest of this small island covering only 70 sq. miles is where you will find the white sandy beaches, warm waters, and turquoise seas; while the northeast coast is exposed to the Atlantic Ocean, still has a few white sandy beaches, but is more known for it’s rough seas with dangerous currents and rocky coastlines. This Caribbean island as of July 2006 was home to as few as 72,000 people. A few of the most popular cities are Noord, Barcadera, Paradera, Sint Nicolaas, Savaneta, and Oranjestad, which is Aruba’s capital. Even though Aruba is a small country, there are many popular destinations including (but not limited to) Conchi, which is a natural pool; California Lighthouse, the aloe factory; one of the 7 natural bridges; Aruba Ostrich Farm; Boca Catalina; and the Antilla Shipwreck. Aruba’s tropical marine climate keeps an almost constant temperature of 81F with little seasonal variation. Due to its south Caribbean location, the strong sun is “cooled” from the constant light breezes out of the east. Like many of the other Caribbean islands, it’s almost always sunny, rarely raining except for brief periods here and there. As of 1996, Aruba has it’s own brewery, producing a delicious beer called the Balashi Beer, which means “near the sea”. The languages spoken in Aruba are Dutch, Papiamento, Spanish, and of course English, since much of Aruba’s economy comes from the American tourists who visit throughout the year. One of the most popular entrees in Aruba’s restaurants is Stoba di Bestia Chiquito, which is hearty goat meat and vegetable stew.
