Located south of Cuba and west of the island of Hispaniola, Jamaica is one of the nations making up the Caribbean Islands. One of the major industries in Jamaica is certainly tourism, with half of the nations weddings being of tourists at their hotels. Jamaica is a beautiful and laid back island that everybody should take time to visit. Many of the most popular visited cities are: Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, and Kingston, which is the island’s capital. The population of this relatively small country was just over 2.7 million people as of July 2006. The national language is Jamaican Creole, also known as Patois (Patwa), but almost all locals speak English. The island is very popular for it’s many all-inclusive resorts such as Sandals, Beaches, and the Ritz Carlton to name just a few. A few of the most popular of the many tourist attractions include Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios, The Bob Marley museum in Kingston, white water rafting, and the blue mountain coffee plantations. Fun things to do while in Jamaica other than the famous tourist attractions include: camping, snorkeling, horse back riding, backpacking, swimming, jet skiing, hiking, and of course relaxing while sun bathing. The currency or money used in Jamaica is the Jamaican Dollar (JMD), although many places do accept the American dollar. The most popular alcoholic drink in Jamaica is the Jamaican rum as well as the domestic beer, red stripe. The warm weather in Jamaica is of tropical climate and is known to be almost always perfect.
